Neil
Diamond (Cree) is a director, writer, and director
of photography for Rezolution Pictures International, in Montreal,
Quebec. Diamond co-directed the documentary One More River,
winner of the Pierre and Yolande Perrault Award for Best Documentary
Debut at the 2005 Rendez-Vous du Cinéma Québecois.
An activist, Diamond has explored, through film and photography,
Cree culture and the impact of Hydro Quebec dams on Cree communities
bordering James Bay. He has co-directed three seasons of the series
Dab Iyiyuu/Absolutely Cree for APTN, with the support of
the Canadian Independent Film and Video Fund. In 2001, Diamond's
film Cree Spoken Here won the Telefilm/APTN Award for Best
Aboriginal Documentary. In 1993, he helped found The Nation,
a northern Cree news magazine. He sits on the editorial board
of The Nation, and is a co-owner of the magazine's parent
company, Beesum Communications. Diamond was raised in the Cree
community of Waskaganish, Quebec, on the coast of James Bay.
