Conroy Chino (Acoma) is currently serving as the Secretary of Labor of New Mexico, following 24 years of creating television news. His journalism career has included many years as an investigative reporter and news anchor for Albuquerque's KOB-TV 4, an NBC affiliate. Chino's award-winning stories-on a wide variety of current events, including Native American issues-won him a loyal following throughout the Southwest. Chino was host for the Smithsonian NMAI radio series Living Voices. Surviving Columbus, a documentary exploring the history of the Pueblo peoples, which Chino hosted and narrated, won the 1993 George Foster Peabody Award. He has recently created his own independent video production company. Chino received a graduate degree in journalism from Princeton University and won a post-graduate fellowship from the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University. He grew up in the Pueblo of Acoma, and is a fluent speaker of Western Keres. He is a leader in the Antelope clan at Acoma and has worked as a consultant to the tribal council.
