This signature film, like the National Museum of the American
Indian itself, [is] a commemoration of living Native peoples and
communities."
- W. Richard West Jr. (Southern Cheyenne), founding director of
the NMAI
and executive producer of the film
A Thousand Roads,
the signature film of the Smithsonian's National Museum of the
American Indian, was produced as part of the opening exhibitions
of NMAI on the National Mall, where it screens multiple times
daily in the Rasmuson Theater.
Since 2005, as part of its commitment to provide programming
outside of the museum to Native communities and the general public,
NMAI is sending the film "on the road" to Native film
festivals and conferences, NMAI's George Gustav Heye Center, and
other screening venues. To make this NMAI program more available,
screenings of A Thousand Roads are free of charge to the
public.
