This annual series celebrates Native stories and the work of indigenous directors, actors, writers, musicians, and cultural activists.

Renew Media/Indigenous Eye
Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Renew Media

"Four Sheets to the Wind"The National Museum of the American Indian honors Renew Media's innovative and crucial work in awarding fellowships to the most original and instrumental media artists in the US and Mexico. During the month, in both the NMAI's At the Movies series and daily programs, works will be shown by some of the more than thirty Renew Media Fellows whose works have screened at NMAI.

"Four Sheets to the Wind"Screenings are held in the Auditorium of the George Gustav Heye Center. For directions, enter here. Reservations are recommended. For the reservation form, enter here. Admission to all screenings is free.

  • Thursday, July 12th, 6 - 8 pm
    Discussion follows with
    Four Sheets to the Wind director Sterlin Harjo (Seminole/Creek).
  • Saturday, July 14th, 1 - 4 pm
    On Saturday, the program opens with short works from recent Renew Media Fellows: Conversion by Nanobah Becker (Navajo), Cheranasticotown by Dante Cerano (P'urhepecha), TBA by Pedro Daniel López (Tzotzil), and Dancing Earth: La Renaissance Indigene by Blackhorse Lowe (Navajo).
    Discussion follows with director Sterlin Harjo and producer Chad Burris (Chickasaw).

Presented in collaboration with Sundance Institute Native Initiatives and Tribeca Film Institute's All Access Connects.

  • Thursday, June 7th, 6 pm

Discussion after both screenings with the director, who will be joined by Miss Navajo Nation contestant Crystal Frazier on Tuesday, June 5.
